What do the Sex Pistols, Kiss, Guns'n'Roses and Faster Pussycat have in common? They all were the early idols of the Backyard Babies and have heavily stamped their sound. The Swedish quartet stands for straight Rock and on their fourth album "Stockholm syndrome" provides us with a lot of good moods. 11 first class hits embraching the sex, drugs & Rock'n'Roll clichΓ© to the max. Already the opener, "Everybody ready?!" sets the scene and is chased by the catchy "Earn the crowd", the sleazy "A song for the outcast" or the first single "Minus celsius". Party character and a big portion of adrenaline are part of this record - either dirty and punky like in "Say when" or "Pigs for swine" then again more pop-like ("Be myself and I"). The fat production of Joe Barresi (QOTSA, Kyuss) gives "Stockholm syndrome" the right international flavour. One of the highlights is the song "Friends" written in 1999 which features musicians from the Ramones, L7, Hanoi Rocks or the Hellacopters! A timeless and yet modern Rock'n'Roll album that kicks and really convinces. Hell yeah! (Markus Wosgien - 04/01)
