Of course, this comeback of the "Final countdown"-rocker let the question come up: does anybody still need Europe? There were several such comments in the recent months, the band now reacts in the only valid form: they present a hell of an album! 'Start from the dark' is stamped by the modern and intelligent guitars of the returned John Norum. With his metal-axe, he doesn't just takes up where the Swedes left off with 'Prisoners in paradise' in the early 90s. Norum and his most important colleague, singer Joey Tempest have updated the sound of their band and by the aid of modern arrangements have added an up-to-date flair. No (or better:) hardly any sugary refrains, no frank trials to forge the material radio-compatible but an opus with edges here and there. If you've seen Europe on this year's 'Sweden Rock Festival' you will confirm: This band is back again! (Matthias Mineur - September 2004)
