Yes, In Flames are not what they used to be. No, In Flames have not become an inconsequential average-band. The Swedes did not only invent the melodic death metal genre, they also used it to the bitter end. Consequently, since "Reroute To Remain", Anders Friden and Co. go a new, more modern way. That is set forth with "Soundtrack To Your Escape", of course. The new album of In Flames first seems incredibly bulky and strange. Except the first single release, "The Quiet Place", hardly any song seems catchy. So it takes some listening sessions until you discover the true quality of the album. In Flames joggle with Nu Metal elements, use Synth-sounds and with songs, like "Dead Alone" or "In Search For I" only sometimes strive through well known territories. For the early fans, this should be the end, tolerant metal fans, however, will soon become acquainted with "Soundtrack To Your Escape". Up for new shores - a step that should be rewarded with respect for In Flames!
