by Jürgen Tschamler (22.02.2010) Danish outfit Mnemic has never been easy to categorise musically. "Sons of the system" is considered a kind of fresh start by the band itself (which, by the way, is one of Metallica's favourite combos). Well, be that as it may, the Scandinavians have never sounded catchier before, in spite of their complex style, than on their new release. Mind you, Mnemic haven't changed their style totally. But somehow, the stuff sounds more musical, more coherent and less sketchy. And you still get it all: the stakkato barrage, the aggressive power shreds, the killer groove... "Climbing towards stars" with that über-cool underlaying keyboard part is a hell of a groove monster. "March of the tripods" is almost catchy - according to Mnemic standards. After "Within", you'll know exactly how a bird in a fan must feel... All tracks have one thing in common: extreme versatility and aggressiveness - without total abandonment of melodies.
