by Matthias Mader (30.03.2010) Strange enough - I always thought High On Fire were a purebred Doom band... But of course, musical and stylistic directions are subject to change - and the Americans have been active for a decade now... "High On Fire are either the new Black Sabbath or the new MotΓΆrhead - depending on who you're asking", the US magazine Alternative Press once wrote. Well, in their new album "Snakes for the divine" neither is true. On tracks like "Frost hammer" or "Fire, flood and plague", the blokes step on the pedal like there's no tomorrow - maybe this is due to their producer of choice: Greg Fidelman also produced the last Slayer album "World painted blood". Be that as it may - on their fifth studio thing, High On Fire definitely set fire to your ears, sometimes sounding like Crowbar on speed! A very nice surprise indeed!
