by Markus Eck (29.09.2006) These British Grindcore veterans have a true surprise in store for their fans: the new, really fierce album "Smear campaign" reveals quite some new facets in the output of the metallers around the roaring Barney Greenway. Already the monumental intro "Weltschmerz" makes that clear. Also the vocal cooperation of The Gathering-frontlady Anneke van Giersbergen is a clear sign for what is new in Napalm Death. Fresh wind? A whole storm! The new album is definitely their best work to date! In the three quarters of an hour running time the listener gets a lot of maximum power and heaviness including a lot of breaks, nicely settled in predominantly mid-tempo grooves. The very variable song material bursts for diversity. All the musical maturity and all the acquainted abilities this band has gathered over the years have flown into this new album.
