by Jürgen Tschamler (null) Their last album, "Afterlife" was an absolute killer, especially the parallels to Riot ("Privilege of power" album) caused a big stir. On their new album, "Shadowland", you won't discover any connections to Riot any more. Instead, they improved in heaviness without neglecting the bandtypical melody-parts. With this album, Nocturnal Rites are without a doubt one of the heaviest bands in melodic Power Metal. What is also striking is that singer Jonny Lindkvist doesn't submit to the genre-typical way "higher-lighter-more dramatic" butmakes his voice fitting to the fat riffs, acting very variable. Bets example is "Revelation", a very fast track with heavy passages and some solos. The following "Never die" impresses with a very refreshing speed and a lot of power. Great! "Underworld" is an epic without clichΓ©s, an aggressive mid-tempo track. The also aggressive "Birth of chaos" comes with heavy riff-attacks and is another highlight of the album. "Shadowland" is a perfect Power Metal Album all through with no weak spots on it.
