11.Mustan Valtikan Aika
by Björn Thorsten Jaschinski (22.10.2008) Heavily armed and painted warriors and a pale elf on the cover artwork - and this name, smelling of Finnish moss - Kivimetsän Druidi sound just like these components: a mixture of Turisas (aggressive drunkards) and Battlelore (playful Fantasy soldiers). Leni-Maria with her high and partially bombastic voice sings about 85 per cent of the songs, the rest is done by Joni, band founder and axeman - his grim and irate singing being the opposite of hers ("Pedon loitsu" has them duetting). Most of the songs are kind of contemplative and laid-back, but the newcomers can wield a mean Black Metal-hammer between all those fanfares and folk tunes, too, as proven in "Blacksmith" and "Korpin lalu". Here and there, you’ll even get some traditional Metal notes from both guitar players. And of course there’s the usual Folk ingredients - but these druids stand out from the crowd of Humppa pablum, in spite of those rhythms in "Mustan valtikan aika".
