by Oliver Kube (02.10.2008) The term "Deutschpunk" (aka German Punk) somehow sounds strange these days because it’s linked either to the pioneers who worked the field in the 70s/80s or to the Fun Punk acts of the 90s. And although these Germans use some of the characteristics typical of the above mentioned genre - German lyrics and traditional style (check out "114" which could also be Tote Hosen-stuff) - and do not lack a certain humour (example: "Schönen Gruß/Deine Frau"), this is no Deutschpunk per se. Fresh and fast "Wo wir zu Hause sind", the steamroller "Adrenalin" (almost reaching Motörhead level, this one!) or fidgety "Auge um Auge" are much too modern for that. Further highlights: irresistably pumping "Stadt ohne Licht" and the Social Distortion cover "Durch diese Augen". After their acclaimed debut EP "Seid ihr bereit?", Serum 114 offer us their first album, a treat for Beatsteaks followers and Tote Hosen fans. Hats off to the boys - the German Punk Rock scene has one top act more.
