Krisiun are back again and off to a brilliant start with their eleventh studio album ‘Scourge Of The Enthroned’, delivering a crisp, 38-minute, death metal barrage of a 2018 album to succeed its somewhat long and complex predecessor ‘Forged In Fury’ – death metal that only the three brothers from Brazil can deliver! Recorded with Andy Classen at Stage One Studio (Belphegor, Legion Of The Damned), the new release focuses on the essentials and sounds absolutely natural. Listeners hear every detail; this is music from a real band instead of flat, cookie-cutter soundtrack layers. “We hate plastic death metal! Here you’ll hear people – not computers!” says singer Alex Camargo contently. “Andy’s studio is in a village near Kassel, and there’s no danger there of getting distracted. We just carved out songs like crazy people from morning till night.” That’s how an intense, merciless bastard creation from Krisiun’s early phase, born of the 2008 opus ‘Southern Storm’ and other epic moments, came to be. Its track ‘Demonic III’ is practically the band’s new anthem. Just like the mythical Anunnaki who appear in ‘Whirlwind Of Immortality’, the song channels the artwork of Eliran Kantor (Testament, Hate Eternal, Sodom). “‘Demonic III’ has that certain ‘Black-Force-Domain’-like riff, and the track is really about us. The Anunnaki were often portrayed as seven figures, but since we’re so close to celebrating 30 years as a band in 2020, we thought it would be fitting to present ourselves as three ancient death metal deities!” To tide yourself over until 2020, you can definitely let the sick Moyses riffs, Max’s insane drumming, and bassist/vocalist Alex’s monstrous Lemmy-esque pipes blow you away. A true death metal highlight of 2018!
