by Markus Wosgien (12.04.2007) "Schlachten & Legenden" shows Obscurity from their best and most uncompromising side ever. Their mixture of Pagan/Viking Metal and Black Metal really kicks ass and the long-gained experience becomes obvious. The production is very dynamic and especially the guitars push you against the wall as if the musicians would just be on their way to the battlefield. Already in the past, there have been comparisons to Amon Amarth, Thyrfing and Naglfar and their level - at the latest with this opus, they are completely justified. Still, the quintet from Velbert has German vocals, which additionally adds some rough warrior flair to the ten tracks, especially because the lyrics are quite understandable. So, powerful songs, like "Bergische Löwen", "Götterdämmerung" and "Ruhm & Ehr" are the great result. Titles that sound heroic but are simply a tribute to the Germanic history, to sagas, myths, and legends. Obscurity does a great job and with this album could have produced a big throw.
