by Matthias Mineur (10.01.2007) Daniel Gildenlöw hasn't always made it so easy for his fans in the past. The head of the Progressive Metallers Pain Of Salvation used to put his demanding lyrics into quite avant-garde kind of songs causing some irritation here and there. The last album, "Be", was one example for this experiment in which sophistication and catchiness collided. Fortunately, on his latest album "Scarsick", the band returns to the more colourful sounds (you shouldn't be irritated by the harsh cover artwork) without denying the liking for progressiveness and innovation. "Scarsick" is full of great melodies, intricate arrangements and clever orchestrated instrumental passages. It may take one or two sessions until each detail ignites. But once the depth of this album has come across on the listener there is no holding back: this album causes addiction! Is there any higher accolade for an album?
