by Jan Sprave (12.08.2009) The last album by this Modern Metal / Metalcore outfit, "The awakening", already gave you a hint, but now, on their new release "Say hello to tragedy", it is obvious: 2009, Caliban are rougher and tougher than they have been for years! The first song "24 years" is a tell-tale epitome with its piercing screams and furor. Dark harmonies, hefty breaks, and the intense interplay between ultra-aggressive screams and growls and emotional clean vocals are characteristics of songs such as "Calibans revenge"(sic!), "End this sickness" (hovering between Thrash and sick harmonies), or "The denegation of humanity" (spiced with melodic soli). "Say hello to tragedy" is brimming with tragic issues ( e.g. a spectacular Austrian case of incest), yet is no whining complaint, but a furious coup - don't miss it!
