by Markus Wosgien (03.01.2006) What a hellride that Mystic Prophecy have in store for us on their new album. Already the opener ignites the first bomb and upcoming is a drumfire of shells made of Power Metal, Speed and Thrash. Songs, like “Evil empires“ or “In the darkness“ are merciless neck killers reflecting just like Brainstorm their love for US metal in the vein of Vicious Rumors or Forbidden. The two new guitarists, Markus Pohl (Symphorce) and Martin Grimm (ex-Headstone Epitaph) turn out to be the perfect choice. The two do not only present first class riffs but also some wonderful, enchanting melodies and solos. “Savage souls“ sounds more homogenous, more dynamic and more refreshing than all previous records of Mystic Prophecy. The surprisingly catchy choruses all turn out to be earwigs and also vocally, frontman Lia covers the whole range. “Savage souls“ has to be a work of devil: it bursts for magic and is brilliant like hell.
