"Séance" CD by Dark Fortress

by Markus Eck (23.12.2005) Listening to the ten schizoid odes to the total mental darkness, you almost don't recognise the old Dark Fortress. The skilful six-piece from Landshut enriched their compositions for “Seance“ with plenty of nightmarish and immensely haunting horror-sounds of often massively hallucinogenic effect. While the last, successful album, “Stab wounds“ was a huge step for the southern German black metal outfit, Dark Fortress reach far beyond their former, creative borders with their current, fourth album, “Seance”. The fine guitars of the two intuitive masters, V. Santura and Asvargr can easily live up to international standards. The fast pace featured in most of the songs so far has been decreased which turns out to be a wise move considering the ghostly atmospheres in this “Seance”. By the aid of numerous calm passages you get some unexpectedly far reaching and seemingly uncontrollable tension.
