by Stefan Frohne (11.07.2007) They are being celebrated as the current answer on Testament and their record company could commemorate their debut album as the best-selling debut in 2005. So, there were little reasons for The Absence to change their sound. The quartet from Tampa presents catchy riffs with a strong liking for Thrash sounds. Beside pleasant harmonies, great leads and licks, the two guitarists, Patrick Pintavalle and Peter Joseph build huge walls of riffs with which The Absence doesn't needhide for established names from the Bay Area Thrash scene. Furthermore, the phat sound that Jonas Kjellgren provided in Erik Rutan's Mana Studio is worth a mention. Despite all power, the overall sound always remains differentiated so that the artistic finesses of all participants are always recognisable. Apropos Testament: a if they wanted to prove that they don't have to fear any comparisons with the formation around Chuck Billy, The Absence recorded a convincing version of the Thrash classic, "Into the pit".
