    Red Planet Boulevard

by Ralf Koch (20.11.2007) The Californian sets forth her series and manages to present us a new album still this year. And after in last winter we "only" saw a (great!) cover album, the new album is presenting 11 new hymns especially written for the lady and her power voice. And while the Queen of Symphonic Metal has always had many different facets in her music, the new Boulevard appears to be less Metal-orientated than several of her past records (Lady Macbeth; Secrets of Astrology), yet at the same time does completely without excessively sugary elements, too. The range does reach from edgy Heavy-Rocker, like e.g. the opener, "Into the Fire", to ballad-kind of material ("The Sheltering Sorrow"), but still she remains the Rock-Lady all the way through. Furthermore, there are some more progressive elements in her songs, too – which can already be guessed from the lengths of the songs. Topping on the ice is the final, instrumental title track, "Red planet boulevard", where themes from each of the album's songs are reprised in a grand orchestral rock style.
