12.Trilogy of the damned (Bonus)
by Olaf Plotke (02/03) Their fourth album, "Recreation day" shows Evergrey at their best. The Swedish quintet celebrates their full musical diversity: a crossover of Progressive-Rock, Power Metal, Thrash and bombast rock. So if you like to listen to the trails apart of the usual ones, this could become a true musical discovery. The album is based on a rather melancholic basic mood coming from the lyrics: they deal with death and a possible life after death. It's fantastic how the band managed to transport their feelings in the songs, feelings telling about despair, anger and hope. No doubt, Evergrey are a bunch of excellent musicians. The 50-minute long album is a masterpiece, an album without any weak spots. If you're fast enough, you can still get the limited edition including a 24-page booklet and the 9-minute bonus-track, "Triology of the damned".
