16.The End
by Markus Eck (29.09.2006) In comparison to the preceding album "Eric the Red", the massive progression of the band is more than obvious! Although Tyr still settle pleasantly in mid-tempo regions, "Ragnarok" turns out much fresher and much more pleasant to listen to. According to the band, "Ragnarok" is a concept album that lyrically deals with the GΓΆtterdΓ€mmerung - the end of the gods of the Nordish mythology written down in the Edda. The Doom-like, dragging, powerfully stamping song structures and their highly effective atmospheres are often being refined by beautiful, clear choir vocals. This is rare in this genre, so Tyr's effort cannot be praised high enough. When it comes to the catchy guitar lines on this Viking album - including the great solos - they are on international top level, so the Faroese should appeal to quite a lot of fans of this heroic genre.
