15.131Caffery, Chris
by Jürgen Tschamler (20.03.2007) Caffery's third solo album really has it. While the first two albums had been overestimated in my opinion and were hardly Metal average, "Pins and needles" is simply Champions League combining a certain amount of uniqueness with high quality songs. Among the 14 tracks there are several ones that have some clear Savatage feel, too, of course, such as "YGBFKM", "Sad", "Metal East" or the title track. And, errm … they sound better than everything Savatage themselves released lately. Still, Caffery can convince with less Savatage-orientated song writing, too. "Sixty-six" is a slightly weird, heavy song with a heavy Agony Column side to it. Great lead guitar and a really crazy chorus, especially towards the end of the song. Very cool. The songs are really edgy and Caffery proves that he is more than Savatage allows him to be. You can play this album ono heavy rotation and never get bored.
