by Oliver Kube (07.01.2008) With their new guitarist, Justin Rimer, 12 Stones from the 10,000-souls city, Mandeville, Louisiana, has become a quintet. Still, also their third album is completely devoted to catchy Post Grunge. Dominated by powerful hymns, like "Lie to me" and "This dark day", as well as slower songs, like the wall of sound killer, "World so cold" or the semi-ballad "Arms of a stranger" with its great, Bluesy guitar solo, crowned by the voice of frontman, Paul McCoy. "Anthem for the underdog" was recorded in a very competent way and with a lot of engagement. And if you don't mind that all compositions could be coming of bands, like Nickelback, Creed, Hinder, Seether, Three Doors Down and alike, too, you'll definitely have a lot of fun in the 35 minutes. Only awards for originality can't be given here for the band around McCoy β who, by the way, also sung in duet with Amy Lee in 2003 on Evanescence's mega-hit, "Bring me to life".
