by Oliver Kube (03.11.2008) For his new album, the Swedish guitar wizard has gathered a special line-up in the studio - and presents, after years of creative stagnation, his most interesting opus since way back. He plays the guitar (of course), bass, some piano parts, and also produces - sound guru Roy Z. (Bruce Dickinson, Halford, Tribe Of Gypsies) did the mixing. Apart from that, the maestro has some famous help: ex-W.A.S.P and ex-Stormwind drummer Patrick Johansson, mega keyboard player Derek Sherinian (Dream Theater, Platypus etc.), and the former Judas Priest- and Iced Earth-front man Tim "Ripper" Owens. And when you have gotten used to the overly rich arrangements (typical of Malmsteen), you are rewarded with the best songs Yngwie has ever written since the "Odyssey" album of 1988: monumental "Damnation game", galloping "Four horsemen", potential hit "Be careful what you wish for" and bombastic ballad "Magic city" which reminds you of those legendary Rainbow timesβ¦
