Time and freedom lead to innovations. Without making compromises, the Grammy-nominated quintet PERIPHERY - Misha Mansoor [guitar, progming], Jake Bowen [guitar, progming], Matt Halpern [drums], Spencer Sotelo [vocals], and Mark Holcomb [guitar] - expanded their unique progressive alternative metal sound on the 2019 Album Periphery IV: HAIL STAN [3DOT Recordings], showcasing new facets. For the first time in their 13-year career, the band dedicated a full year to the nine tracks on the Album. They operated independently and released the first PERIPHERY release on their own label, 3DOT Recordings. The 16-minute opener 'Reptile' already demonstrates their preference for progressive music with surprising twists between relentless grooves, intricate fret fireworks, and melodic interludes, all embedded in what Mark describes as a 'richer, more aggressive, and darker tone than on the last Albums.' The frenetic 'CHVRCH BVRNER' is described by him as 'the most spastic song we've ever written.' For the final 10-minute track 'Satellites,' all band members gathered in a room with their rehearsal space amps - a recording technique they previously used for 'Lune' from Periphery III: Select Difficulty. The first single 'Blood Eagle' sets the tone - 'it is the most relentless, uncompromising, heaviest, and angriest song on this Album,' Mark grins. 'A 'Blood Eagle' was a form of torture used by the Vikings.' By allowing themselves the necessary time, PERIPHERY reached a new level with Periphery IV: HAIL STAN. 'Some of the songs are certainly not what people expect from us,' Mark explains. 'It would be great if we became known for a certain level of unpredictability.' The standard CD jewel case edition of 'Periphery IV: HAIL STAN' replaces the sold-out limited CD Digipak.
