by Benedikt Niederschmid (04.07.2007) There are things that you should be carefully with combining, such as e.g. fish and red wine, plus and minus, man and woman. Also the combination of Ska and Emo has so far been something you would generally have called impossible. But although The Bandgeek Mafia crosses them, the decline of all music cultures hasn't come closer a single step. On the contrary: as the band from Trier, Germany, proves with the debut-album, "Paint your target", all previous impossibility has only resulted from narrow-mindedness. Beside edgy horn sections and fast Off-Beat-Skankin', the six-piece manages to incorporate pleasant Emo- and Screamo-elements into their music. Especially the voice of singer Achim is perfect for the Emocore-genre. The fat guitars, the anthemnic refrains and the good songs provide the rest help to vanquish all scepticism. Also if the emotional and the happy moments sometimes seem to stand in each others way, the unusual mixture remarkably works as a whole. So, with this, the world is enriched by another good combination.
