Article description

Insanity reigns in the New Year! This particular insanity is called PSYOPUS and hails from Rochester, NY! The insanity will release its second album "Our Puzzling Encounters Considered" in February 2007! The insanity makes other freaks like THE DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN look tame in comparison! The insanity is made up of four musicians who are at the top of their game on their respective instruments! The insanity causes heart attacks with the blink of an eye! The insanity thrives on technically proficient, grinding metal, guitar work bordering on the absurd, relentless vocal punishment, and a bombardment of rhythms which can barely be comprehended by the human eye/ear! The insanity is like STEVE VAI’s answer to tech metal! The insanity has guitarist Chris "Arpmandude" Arp in their ranks, who won the regional LIMP BIZKIT guitarist search in 2001, is endorsed by Ibanez, and writes a column in Decibel Magazine! The insanity will get you all! "Our Puzzling Encounters Considered" is pure insanity!(Source: Metal Blade Records)

    Our puzzling encounters considered

by Stefan Müller (18.01.2007) Okay, I better take out the calculator for Psyopus love it musically intricate in every respect. Straight times, foot tapping? No chance. The Americans cross wildest Grind with heaviest Free Jazz-attacks. If you need at least some kind of usage of classic harmonies in records you should better avoid "Our puzzling encounters considered". The really remarkable guitars of Christopher "Arpmandude" Arp crashes every convention. The comparison may be a little brave but on their debut album, Psyopus sound as you locked Dillinger Escape Plan and Steve Vai in a rollercoaster and didn't let them out before this album was ready. And Frank Zappa sat at the brakes and smiled happily.
