17.All the promises
by Matthias Mineur (24.01.2006) The benchmark was extremely high, of course, and it was almost impossible to live up to the original. But obviously, Queensrÿche did not even try to copy their 1988-classic, “Operation mindcrime“ in every detail. Instead, on “Operation mindcrime II“ singer Geoff Tate tells the continuation of his story of his fictitious heroes Nikki and Doctor X and at the ssame time gives his fellows in the band all freedom to further progress their unmistakable Progressive Metal sound. Some songs turn out to be unusually tough, build up some great tensions only to completely change in the next second again. Still, somehow everything fits the intelligent topic of the album dealing with the human psychic, with power, faint, rage and revenge. Especially because Tate's unique voice again provides some a goose-flesh. His mourning way of singing, the obviously unquenchable melancholy of his melodies put a spell on the listener so that you can only conclude: it's the singer, not the song!
