ON THORNS I LAY are Greek Titans. While their colleagues from Rotting Christ, Septic Flesh, and Nightfall were more inclined towards symphonic and black metal, the band from Athens incorporated a touch of gothic on their 1994 debut. It makes sense, since they are named after a sonnet by Shakespeare.

ON THORNS I LAY have released 9 albums so far, including Orama, Crystal Tears, Aegean Sorrow, and Threnos, which received great reviews (Scream Norway, album of the month, Inferno Finland 5/5, Metal Storm top 5 albums of the year 2020, and many others...). They have shared the stage with great bands such as Dream Theater, In Flames, Anathema, Amorphis, Katatonia, Rotting Christ, Tiamat, The Gathering, Satyricon, Septic Flesh, and many more.

Their musical style is pure, atmospheric, melodic doom death metal!

Their latest album 'Threnos' followed the path of atmospheric yet emotional doom death metal - a tribute to their roots and once again the band's trademark. ON THORNS I LAY continue to tell dense stories of loss and despair.

Thirty years and ten albums later, ON THORNS I LAY now release their first album with Season of Mist. Their self-titled long-player takes death-doom to epic heights and brings a new gothic shine to the muscular riffs and cavernous vocals reminiscent of the glorious days of Peaceville death-doom from the early 90s.
