by Patrick Schmidt (09/02) What should I write about Meshuggah? The Swedes are among the most extreme bands in the whole music scene and perform with technical abilities that only partially seem from out of this world. "Nothing" is again more extreme, more complex and confusing than its predecessor, "Chaosphere". "Nothing" should not (only) be heard, it should be felt. Preferably at high volume. Then you will experience the painful riffs, this inhuman vocals full of hate that come over you and you will float for the next 53 minutes. Fragile souls will, however, get a trauma by the weird rhythms, the precisely thundering drumming and the deeply rolling bass. All others, who also listen to bands, like Neurosis, Watchtower, Cynic or Spiral Architect, this album is contrary to the album title much, much more than "Nothing": a single, neverending organsm! Ahhhhhhh, how great can music be! Progressive music only for progressive listeners. (Patrick Schmidt - 09/02)
