by Jürgen Tschamler (04.07.2007) As we know, Uli Kusch has once played the drum in Helloween and regarding the band name of his new band, Ride The Sky, you could easily interpret the musical parallels to his former employer. At least that was my first thought when I read about the Ride The Sky-album. But I was wrong. Mr. Kusch got himself a legion of top class musicians for the band and consequently, Ride The Sky at no time sound like the early Helloween. Tears Of Anger/Beyond Twilight-singer, Bjorn Jansson was a good choice because he doesn't stand in line with usual no-balls-faction but rather adds a certain rough charms to the RTS sound instead. Musically, "New protection" has some twelve excellently arranged Metal songs in store ranging somewhere between Masterplan, Sonata Arctica and Hammerfall. A progressive element can't be denied, either. The band at no time sounds dated or as if they tried to sound like anyone else. No this outfit is keen on their own identity and has successfully managed to prove it.
