Having initially started out under the name of Genocide, Callenish Circle from Holland have long become an insider tip in the European Death Metal scene. Out of one talented band among many and having released many an album on different labels, this band has long become a unity that has broadened the range. "My passion//your pain" is not simply a typical product in the incalculable mass of releases. Under the clear surface, refined by Andy Classen, there is a volcano lifting the passion for Death and much acclaimed technical Thrash Metal above a simple statement to a power of its own. Callenish Circle combine roots and modern day sounds of both genres with an eye on Sweden (not only the "Go!" in "Forsaken" reminds me of At The Gates), without breaking with their rules like In Flames or Soilwork. Despite the groove and some a straight banger-riff, the many solos in the complex songs can easily live up to the virtuoso of the most recent Death gourmet albums. (Eugen Legat - 03/03)
