by Olaf Plotke (10/00) What kind of sound-thunder and lightening is this? Fintroll burn on their debut-album one of the most genius sound-fireworks that I have ever heard. But this record is not only for friends of the cudgel-hard music as of Warpath. The Finns spice their record with atmosphere in Nightwish-vein, some folk-elements and really crazy sounds. And that again reminds me a bit of the fellow country-citizens of Waltari. Yet, on Finntrolls record reigns the cudgel, already the opener "Svartberg" after the tremendous intro kicks real ass. However, by the use of fine melodies and the folk-elements, this cudgel-off-the-bag-music becomes a complete new experience. The band call their music Trollish Howdown Metal, but who they think can use this definition? "Midnattens widnunder" is a real hammer in more than one sense, and a real exception, too. For me, the hottest tip for cold winter-days!
