In the 90s, the exceptional singer was the front man of Viper, and, a bit later, of Angra, two bands quite well-known even beyond the borders of their native Brazil. Since 2007, after the short-lived Shaman thing, Andre Matos flies solo; "Mentalize" is his second release. "When the sun cried out", "A lapse in time" or energetic, juicy "Powerstream" - those are good songs, no doubt about that. And of course Andre's voice reminds you of his stints with Viper and Angra. But there are also differences, stylewise : "Mentalize" is a bit more melodic, softer than this earlier stuff. I wouldn't go that far and call it downright progressive, but the keyboard parts on catchy compositions like "I will return" (my fave) are clearly distinct - next to the remarkable guitar work by that dynamic duo Hernandez/Mariutti.
