by Jürgen Tschamler (22.10.2008) Candlemass seem to set a new standard for the so-called "EP" format; this "Lucifer rising"-EP is 70 minutes long! The title track "Lucifer rising" is a chunk of monstrous Power Doom that also would have been a perfect fit for "Candlemass" (released in 2005). What a wrecking ball - and Steve Lowe sings like a god! The next song, "White god", is a gloomy, riff-laden Doom monster. The re-recorded version of "Demons gate" with Robert Lowe at the mike sounds much more intense, epic and just awesome - even better than the original (which is not that bad either…)! These first three are followed by nine live tracks recorded in Athens by Candlemass during their last European tour. Anyway, songs like "Emperer of the void", "Mirror, mirror", "Solitude" and "Samarithan" are overwhelming - and so are the fan reactions: you could hear the enthusiastic audience singing along with many songs. If these two new tracks are a taste of the next studio album, we can rejoice: something big will see the light of day soon.
