Excellent Service

When Mother’s Finest opened the second Rockpalast night on 4 March 1978 in the Grugahalle in Essen, not many people actually knew who they were. But this was all set to change, as their show, which is a combination of black funk and white rock ’n’ roll, turned them into a cult band across Europe – and they’ve held this status ever since.
Mother’s Finest literally wowed the unsuspecting audience with signature tracks like ‘I’m Gonna Give You All The Love’ (1977), ‘Baby Love’ (1977) and ‘Mickey’s Monkey’ (1978). The latter, by the way, a cover of the Dozier/Holland song made famous by Smokey Robinson & The Miracles in 1969. He never missed a Mother’s Finest concert, testifying to the band’s style-defining roots in Motown sound.
The group split in 1984. Joyce ‘Baby Jean‘ Kennedy went on to have some success as a solo artist. 25 years after their legendary performance, Mother’s Finest were guests at Rockpalast again – almost with the original line-up. They at Burg Satzvey in Germany on 20 July 2003 and, as well as their classics, also performed some powerful new songs.
