by Jürgen Tschamler (14.04.2008) Norway’s Keep Of Kalessin belongs to the spearhead of the Nordish Black Metal genre. With their last album, "Armada", they had a lot of success on an international scale establishing the band outside of Scandinavia, too. "Armada" is also the basis for what we can hear on the new album, "Kolossos": high quality Black Metal with high aggressiveness and bombastic melodies. Excessive speed is rather rare, everything sounds very controlled. By the melodies, the nine songs are absolutely infectious, on the other hand, there is also some kind of cold that especially in the atmospheric parts really send you shivers down the spine. Like on the predecessor, the acoustic guitar passages loosen up the songs and positively lift KOK from the rest of the genre. The excellent guitars of Obsidian C. (Satyricon) are the centre of the whole material. The rushing "Escape the union" waltzes you down while the title track already with its opening riff makes clear that with this innovation in store, Keep Of Kalessin are unstoppable.
