After more than four years the guys around front woman Cristina Scabbia return with a breathtaking album. Already the first Maxi extraction "Our truth" shows a bit of what the fans can expect of "Karmacode". After "Comalies" a big step forwards.

by Marcel Anders (13.04.2006) The amount of touring demands its tribute: four years after “Comalies“, the Italians finally return with a new album. And that offers the known qualities. Beginning with the opulent wall of sound production via an extra portion of pathos to the mixture of ambient, gothic and nu metal. Bombastic keyboards encounter staccato guitars, a pumping bass and the changing vocals of Cristina Scabbia and Andrea Ferro. A duo that is far from being so siren-like as their colleagues of Nightwish and Within Temptation. Also the mystically entitled songs provide the perfect balance of bombast and heaviness. "Our truth“, e.g. convinces by Oriental ambient-sounds, “What I see“ is a true killer, “Closer“ indulges in wild romanticism and “Within me“ turns out to be an acoustic ballad. A variety that always has two constants: the melodramatic song arrangements and the liking for hedonistic messages of the “Life is too short“ kind. An approach that gives them uniqueness. Only weakness is the Depeche Mode-cover, “Enjoy the silence“. That would not have been necessary...
