by Björn Thorsten Jaschinski (04.03.2008) They couldn't get rid of the pong of their founding years as a Metalcore band, yet. Sure, the sound of the Americans is neither acceptable for Black- nor for Death Metal-purists – they are much too modern for that – but the combination of elements of both worlds works great. The vocals draw elements from both styles, the keyboard orchestrations is kissed by the black muse, and the lead guitars give clear hints to the Scandinavian Melodic Death school ("Prey"). The sextet surely serves no Pussy shelf but neither can be pigeonholed to brutality just like the majority of the new US Death/Grind school, either. These guys seem to be fast songwriters who didn't need to go over their demo fund for their debut album. If only the permanent line-up changes are over now – especially in the guitar section – The Breathing Process have a huge potential. A bit more focus on the compositions, on spiritual depth and on catchier refrains (without clear vocals!) would make them leaders of their genre.
