Article description

Primordial proved to be in a league of their own already on their debut album, conjuring up doomy, epic and monumental soundscapes that often betray their love for Irish folk and (at the time prominent) Black Metal influences. Double CD in deluxe slipcase.

by Björn Thorsten Jaschinski (29.01.2009) You barely recognise Naihmass Nemthenaga (alias Alan Averill) during the recitative of "Fuil arsa" - you’ll hear his distinctive clear voice not before "Infernal summer". The music, melancholic and unmistakably Irish, is Primoridal, in spite of all Black Metal references in the guitar sound and some eruptions of speed ("Here I am king"). The Irish didn’t have a second axe on their debut, then still being a quartet. But they had already found their epic style - and My Dying Bride’s producer Mags was able to catch and record it aptly. They had been discovered by Cacophonous - apart from homegrown talents like Cradle Of Filth and Bal Sagoth, for example, this label had some exceptional international artists such as Sigh or Deinonychus in their roster. The Karmageddon rereleases are as hard to get as the originals, so a new edition of this diamond in the rough as a double CD including demo and live material makes sense - the black linen slipcase with a golden embossment making it all the more attractive.
