by Markus Eck (22.10.2008) This re-release is a real treat for true fans of Týr: the rare debut of these Viking Metal individualists hailing from the Faroe Islands, released in 2002, is hardly - if at all - available as original edition. This superbly illustrated rerelease contains two bonus tracks, the great songs "Ólavur riddararós" and "Stýrisvølurin", "Ólavur riddararós" being taken from the then single of the horde. But the regular compositions on "How far to asgaard" have a certain appeal, above all, the pumping, earthy, and catchy opening song "Hail to the hammer" - that’s vintage Týr. All tracks remind me of old Nordic influences, anyway - that keeps up the high dramaturgical level on this unique record. Even on their first album, the band had a knack for embedding their heroic songs into Doom Metal structures.
