An album with class and style. The Gathering seldomly sounded so gloomy and meditative, with "Home" they possibly made their most catchy and mature album. A musical trip in history and future.

    Forgotten (Reprise)

by Markus Wosgien (10.04.2006) That the Dutch would be returning to their gothic metal roots will remain a wish for many. “Home” is the band's eighth studio album and like its predecessors moves in very calm, meditative as well as rocky regions. Still, “Home“ sounds much more catchy, tight and more homogenous. The mood is often depressive-like and punishing using influences of the 70s as well as triphop or prog. The Gathering have reduced to the minimum and achieve maximum success. “Home” is an album to relax to and think. And it's an album that manages to put you mediation-like into another emotional condition. Some of the songs, such as the psychotic opener, “Shortest day“, the disco rocker, “Alone“ or the simply great “Waking hour“ really turn out to be masterpieces. “Home” has class and style. Maybe it's just ahead of its time.
