by Yvonne Zymolka (10.07.2008) You smell sulphur? Well, maybe "Hell" is the reason for it! Venom know their Rock `nΒ΄ Roll basics - and still use them today. Even the first sounds let you perk up your ears: a riff - laughing nastily? Indeed! The steely strings are alive: crazy shrieking, wild gallops, thudding bass throbbing open the gates to hell. The singing, or rather the sounds emerging from Cronos’ throat, varies between diabolical grunting and raspy grating staccato ("Hand of god"). Bass and guitar fight each other incessantly and with an intensity reminding you of roaring motorcycle engines. But on "Hell", Venom also made an effort concerning catchier songwriting and atmosphere ("Evilution devilution", "Blood sky"). After Cronos’ furious and entertaining USA bashing Γ  la Sid Vicious’ "My way", the last song ("The awakening") is a calmer instrumental - being, like "At war with Satan" in the past, at the same time the beginning of the next album.
