by Benny Ramm (26.06.2007) On the one hand, there are bands who release a best-of after only two records, on the other hand, there is Social Distortion. Mike Ness and his fellows have been around for almost 30 years (!!!) and now finally release their first compilation simply named "Greatest hits". Since only twelve songs found their place on this album, there are many songs missing, of course. So, the well suited CD / DVD hunter and collector is not the targeted group of interest for this album. Only the one new song, "Far behind", would be the sales-argument for him. This song turns out to be a typical S.D. midtempo track with passionate vocals. The rest is made up of well known classics of the Punk Rock genre, such as "Mommy's little monster" and "Story of my life" and the Johnny Cash-cover "Ring of fire". Special bonus for the European version is a noisy live version of "1945". Result: a fine collection, yet rather suited for people who haven't dealt with the topic Social Distortion that much, yet.
