by Björn Thorsten Jaschinski (31.01.2008) In the friendly battle for the most unconventional band in Leipzig, they take the award from Disillusion now. The guitars? Voluminous and punishing. Yet, their "Stampede" doesn't hurry, it comes slowly β an example for "The chameloen effect"? Singing drummers worked in Death and Speed Metal, in the German Progressive Rock genre they have tradition since Birth Control. Ethno-percussion, loops, polyrhythms? Everything there. Sensational is the completion of the section: Kristoffer GildenlΓΆw, ex-bassist of the former tour-partner, Pain Of Salvation, grooved with the still growling Nico Knappe. After the praising words of Opeth's Mikael Akerfeldt, this is another accolade that helps in the musical categorisation. Comparable with the hiring of the ex-Pestilence bass-man by the German Death Metal-technicians, Obscura. Despite of the English lyrics, Knappe's smooth, lyrical voice builds bridges to the Kraut Rock tradition. The brilliant fine cut of the mosaic lets inspirations shine through but not dominate. Dark Suns remain progressive in the truest sense of the word.
