So, you think you really know Arjen Lucassen? The outstanding Dutch prog-rock polymath? The man behind the super successful prog-rock conceptualists Ayreon? Not to mention his prog-metal offshoots Star One and Guilt Machine? Huge, sprawling concept albums about space and time, packed with special guests that read like a who's who of modern progressive rock? Albums that take just as long to conceive as they do to record? This Arjen Lucassen? Well, think again: 'Golden Age Of Music,' Lucassen's latest album from his not insignificant talent, may indeed offer excellent musical performances and great melodies, but there's no story set far in the future in the depths of outer space. The 11 tracks of the album (plus 4 bonus tracks on the CD) are also not contributed by an endless list of guest musicians. The end result is 11 songs of energized, progressive heavy rock that swings with the kind of groove that Deep Purple rocked with in the early to mid-1970s.
