16.Gerbera (Surf Version)
by Sonja Angerer (23.03.2007) With "Gokusai", the J-Rock band returns to their roots again: the combination of catchy Pop elements from the Japanese 70s and modern Metal. The gloomy era of "Homurauta" can still be heard, e.g. in the title-track or in the angry "G.M.C" (a true Speed killer) but the positive Hardrock side dominates, e.g. in "D.O.G." with its catchy intro as well as the ultra catchy "Utagoe". At the same time, there are some big surprises, too. "Nageki no kane", e.g., begins like a herd of elephants gone mad and suddenly turns into a relaxed Reggae. Or the surf version of "Gerbera", a crazy Dick-Dale-fantasy with some melancholic Synth Pop side to it. "Yasashii uta" sometimes is almost a Southern Rock hymn, including passionate "Crossroads"-harp which however towards the end becomes more and more wild. And in "Horizont", a flute provides some Artrock feeling. A surprising, extremely catchy album not only for J-Rock-fans: if you want to know this sound, this is the perfect entry!
