by Matthias Mineur (July 2005) This topic seems to have taken hold of Jon Schaffer even more intense tha one could assume initially. Already on his last album, "The glorious burdon", the Iced Earth-boss devoted a large portion of his energy to the decisive battle in the American Civil War. With the double DVD, "Gettysburg" he now presents the topic visually, too. This is no Iced Erath video collection. Schaffer travelled to the place of the legendary battle, met a tourist guide in order to comprehend what happened back in 1863, using his music only as an atmospheric background sound. We learn a lot about the fights between the north and the south, about their discussion on the matter of freedom and slavery. Highly interesting and fortunately provided with bonusmaterial in which Iced Earth and their great songs are the main focus. As a whole however, rather for the history lessons than for headbanging.
