11.Gone Gone Gone
by Oliver Kube (24.07.2009) Well, Rock history is full of so-called break-up albums. Take Bob Dylan, for example, who wrote ingenious "Blood on the tracks" after a really tough one. Heartbroken, The Cure recorded "Disintegration", and Beck tried to get over a separation with "Sea change"... So why shouldn’t Doug Robb, front man of American Post Grungers Hoobastank, do the same? And he’s off to a really angry start with wonderfully snotty "My turn". Unfortunately, the band can’t keep up that level of intense emotion all the time, though. Trivial "Tears of yesterday" or the boring Pop song "You need to be here" don’t add much depth to the overall impression. Only when Robb indulges in real self-doubt delivering epic "Who the hell am I?", he gains credibility and you believe in his deep, intense emotions again. Album #4 by the Californians contains an even number of highlights and flops - the fans have to decide whether that’s enough or not.
