Raven was originally formed as a duo by brothers Mark and John Gallagher. They played their first gig in 1975 and amassed a loyal following in the North East of England. When Neat Records, pioneers of the NWOBHM, became aware of the band, John Gallagher (bass and vocals) and Mark Gallagher (lead guitar) joined forces with drummer Rob β€˜Wacko’ Hunter and formed a power trio that released the debut CD β€˜Don’t Need Your Money’ in 1980 and the debut LP β€˜Rock Until You Drop’ in 1981. The album perfectly captured the energy of their live shows and was immediately hailed as a champion by the highly influential British rock press, which won them major articles in Kerrang! and Sounds. This newfound fame led to tours with Ozzy Osbourne, Whitesnake and MotΓΆrhead.
