Legends have the indisputable advantage that they can go back to an arsenal of classics. The American, Ronnie James Dio, little in size but huge by his voice, can not only look back on a successful era with Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow but was also member in Black Sabbath and released numerous highlights as a solo artist. Some outtakes of his work have now found their way on 'Evil Or Divine - Live In New York City'. Great tracks, such as 'Man On The Silver Mountain', 'Long Live Rock'n'Roll' (both Rainbow), 'Heaven And Hell' (Black Sabbath) or 'Holy Diver' and 'The Last In Line' (both Dio-solo) are just immortal and part of metal history. Especially because the line-up on 'Evil Or Divine' featuring the exceptional guitarist Doug Aldrich, bassist Jimmy Bain and ex-AC/DC-drummer, Simon Wright is just superb. Yet: the sound of the album has only demo quality. (Matthias Mineur - April 2005)
