by Oliver Kube (28.09.2007) With this album, accompanied by the tour with e.g. Vader and Kataklysm, the Belgian Aborted had their breakthrough as one of the leading Death Metal-bands in Europe. For years, this 2001-release had been out of stock and was desperately sought after by Gore-fans. Both musically and by the use of audio samples from horror-films, "Engineering the dead" is the high-value prelude to the two career-highlights, "Goremageddon: The saw and the carnage done" (2003) and "The archaic abbatoir" (2005), with which they finally established in the Champions League alongside giants, like Carcass and Cannibal Corpse. Digitally re-mastered, provided with a new, expensive cover artwork, this little splatter-milestone is now finally available again. So, also the younger generations have the pleasure of listening to these excellent and surprisingly variable classics – including Thrash and Grincore elements – like "The holocaust incarnate" and "Exhuming the infested".
